Book Review

"Photographing Your Family"

I recently had an opportunity to read the National Geographic's new book, “Photographing Your Family: And All the Kids and Friends and Animals Who Wander Through Too” written by Joel Sartore with John Healey. This book will be available at bookstores on March 18, 2008.

If you are parent, grandparent, or anyone who is looking to take some great memorable pictures of your family & friends, this is the book for you. This book is a how-to-guide for ordinary people like you and I to learn the techniques of taking extraordinary pictures. The author, Joel Sartore, is a lifelong Nebraskan who has over 20 years of experience (more than 16 with the National Geographic Society). He has also produced 23 articles for National Geographic magazine. He has received many awards throughout his career and his book reflects his professional work.

Through his book, Sartore focuses on letting his readers obtain tips and tricks that he learned throughout the years of his personal & professional experiences in taking photographs. He uses his own family photographs as examples. He explains how the photographs were taken along with an easy explanation of his techniques. In addition, he touches on how to use your camera, lighting, composition settings, printing and many other topics that are helpful.

I personally enjoyed reading this book and learned many things that I did not know about taking simple photos.  His writing style is very easy to understand. His examples of family photographs are amazing.  I can definitely take his advise and use his techniques to create amazing photos of my family and friends. If you own a camera or about to purchase one, I truly recommend you to grab a copy of “Photographing Your Family: And All the Kids and Friends and Animals Who Wander Through Too,” written by Joel Sartore with John Healey. Read this book & turn your everyday life with your family into extraordinary photographs for years to enjoy. Learn the techniques from the “Photographing Your Family: And All the Kids and Friends and Animals Who Wander Through Too” written by Joel Sartore with John Healey and keep your memorable events forever.
