Love oysters? Love Pearls?
Posted March 18th, 2008 by hipmommyEveryone knows that Gulf oysters produce beautiful pearls. And many people also know that Gulf oysters are yummy food to eat. Well, other than pearls, have you ever wished that certain items can be produced by the oysters? What happens if oysters were to produce weird things like charcoal, diamonds, or carrots? Well, I'll be a happy girl, if oysters produce diamonds but no thanks to charcoal or carrots!!! If something like this happens, I would keep the diamonds and would eat my delicious oysters. Double treats for me! My personal wish is to find a sophire(my birthstone), in Gulf oysters....but I know it is not possible. Finding a sophire in the oyster would be so neat on my birthday! In a reality, I know that is impossible, but I can dream about holding a sophire produced by the oyster & eating the same oyster at the same time right?
Well, eating raw Gulf oysters can be very dangerous if you do not follow proper instructions. It is best for people to visit Oyster Aware website to read up on educational information about oysters. Japanese Food: Okonomiyaki
Posted January 7th, 2008 by hipmommyI was really craving for some Japanese food today, so I decided to cook Okonomiyaki for dinner. For those who does not know Okonomiyaki, it is like a Japanese style pancake/pizza dish. Basically, you mix any ingredients you want in Okonomiyaki in a special Okonomiyaki( flour/egg/water) mix. I wanted to put a lot of stuff, but my daughter and my hubby were not thrilled about what wanted to put in Okonomiyaki, so I sticked with some chopped cabbage and shrimp as the main ingredients. Just look at my picture of my Okonomiyaki below: Oh I almost forgot. Once Okonomiyaki was cooked, I topped with a special Japanese okonomiyaki Sauce, Japanese mayo and sprinkled some Japanese Ao Nori(dried green seaweed). I purchased all my ingredients from the online Japanese store called Maruwa.com located out in California. I love this store and Maruwa.com's customer service was awesome! If you are looking to purchase some Japanese food/ingredients I highly recommend you to visit Maruwa.com!!!!! Doesn't my Okonomiyaki look yummy?

My own California Rolls!
Posted December 15th, 2007 by hipmommyI made some California Rolls for my 2 good friends yesterday. It took me about 2 hours to make them but it was worth it!!!!! They were delicious:-) Just look at the picture below. My friends were so amazed that I was able to make California Rolls. I got some nice compliments on presentation of my California Rolls, too :-) My sister-in-law gave me a nice boat tray 2 years ago and I have been using it every time I cook Japanese food for friends and family. Oh don't forget, both of my friends told me that my California Rolls were delicious! It really made me feel good to see my friends enjoying my food!!! I don't know what it is but I've cooking all kinds of different food recently. I just love cooking for other people. I can't wait to cook more Japanese food for my friends again!
